It just came and went. You don’ t really hear much about it. Was it low production, did it flop, or both? 2019 sales figures I found they only sold 1, 693 last year. An inventory search shows that there aren’ t many around me locally either. I found 9 within 150 miles, all priced $94-$99k. Used they go for almost new prices. Almost. Prices range from $67-$99 grand with a few hundred miles on the clock. Other than that, I’ve never seen one out in the wild. I really don’ t know who Jeep thought the buyers would be for this. SRT-8 owners who want more power (modding with Mopar parts is probably cheaper)? Or trying to get AMG and M buyers over to the brand? I don’ t know.

I see quite a few here in Minn eapolis. An AWD sports truck actually makes sense here given the deplorable roads and the snow.......

Here’s all the Hellcat-powered cars sold in 2019:
Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk: 1,693
Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat: 2,285
Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody: 1,361
Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat: 1,134
Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody: 3,353
Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye: 604
It did well enough all things considered. And it trounces the Charger given its limited production run:
Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk (2018-2019): 9,149 SUVs
Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat (2015-2019): 11,995

Yeah! It’s nice because seeing a car like that is a great icebreaker for introducing yourself to new neighbours.

True. Especially given the price and how thirsty these things are.

I think the Trackhawk is awesome but as a current owner of a Limited MY14 W K2 , there are some glaring build/quality issues, at a low level, and I’d be hard pressed to do it again.
For a family of 4, it’s smaller inside that you’d think, the 5.7L has fairly high NHV inside the cabin and the A/C isn’t much better than being coughed on by a marmot. Features-wise, it’s really solid and for a modern unibody, fully independent suspension, SUV to have an honest to God low-range, it does well in tough terrain.
I’ve thought about buying a Whipplecharger kit for it but I'm not sure the driveline would love me after that.
![]() 07/31/2020 at 17:56 |

Yea if the quality issues are at the low level, paying $80k+ would be unacceptable. Its good you have the Hemi though so you if you wanted to mod it there are a lot of cheap options for you. But yea its almost like you’ re saying better money is spent elsewhere.

Wouldn’t pretty much any performance SUV handle bad weather just fine?
![]() 07/31/2020 at 18:16 |

Eh maybe. I just feel like a Jeep would handle it better just by nature of it being a Jeep.

My neighbor’s dad (old guy in his 70s) has one. He just looks like the average retiree, doesn’t have any form of badass wannabe complex...and he seems to putt around in it just as if it were any other bland SUV. His decision to own this thing is awesome and supremely baffling at the same time.
![]() 07/31/2020 at 18:40 |

As is most other old people in performance vehicles. Many seem to buy the top or performance trim because they cost the most. Others know what they are doing it seems. But all of them drive them so slow they could’ve just bought something cheaper with way less power.

The new Challenger was supposed to share Alfa’s Giorgio platform when it debuted in 2020. Um, 2021. Errrr, 2022...
But that’s a very different market than the GC, so maybe moving to a new platform makes sense.

I’m perplexed by this syndrome in Montecito.... A common sight is a mid-70s, female, dowager-ish retiree in something like an AMG E63 Wagon (a car Clarkson once called “an axe murderer with headlights”) or top-drawer Cayenne Turbo S.
When I ask my wife WHY would a docile retiree buy a $150K racecar in street clothes she gives the right answer... “Because they can...”

These always struck me as such an odd vehicle for production. I’m just not sure who the target demo is for these. I can’t imagine they make for a good off-roader, and I think if street performance is the goal, the Charger Hellcat is a better option within the Mopar family.
I’m not complaining though. I’m all for more wacky, wholly unnecessary, and incredibly fun cars and trucks out there.

These are tiny inside. My old RAV4 even had more space inside.

That’s how I feel about it. I’m all for horsepower and performance. But sometimes it doesn’t make sense and this was one of those instances. A Charger Hellcat is better if you wanna haul stuff and the family. It’s a boat sure but the GC was designed as an off-roader first and foremost. They just dropped a big motor in with bigger brakes and better tires and lowered it without thinking that the rest of vehicle isn’t exactly designed for road performance duty.

They must have sold more the year before. I’ve seen several of them out in the wild including this one in the middle of Manhattan by Rockefeller Center of all places last summer:
And my Mom’s neighbor in suburban Pittsburgh got one around when they came out in early 201 8:
Plus a few more on the road that I haven’t snapped. I’m sure the sales numbers aren’t huge - it’s a $100k vehicle without a traditional luxury badge - but I’m guessing when it was new and popular in 2018 it sold many times the 2019 number. Weird speciality vehicles like this do tend to make a splash when they debut then once they fill their niche there aren’t many buyers left. I don’t ever remember hearing that they expected to sell tens of thousands of these.

Sort of get it, but I sort of don’t - the Grand Cherokee is a grocery-getter, a school-run car, maybe minor off-roading to a campground. My sister has a 3-year-old loaded one (I quite like it) , and she was amused when I told her of the existence of the Trackhawk. I have never seen one here. And I’ve looked. Guessing you’ll be able to score one around 40K in 3 years, but what do I know?

What a waste of 100k .. i can get in an AMG for less and the transfer cases are breaking like crazy . Go ahead and price a TC or a rear ...LMaO .. if you even touch anything you void the warranty... the price is a disgrace ..come back again for 70k and more people would buy one ...FACTS

In bad weather there is nothing this dumb 700hp vehicle can do that an Outback cant do better and for 1/5 the price, almost.
Ive only seen one of these Trackhawks and it was in a tiny town in the middle of nowhere WY. Theyre ridiculous and not in a good way, imo.

I’ve driven a couple. Once I get the driver’s seat to my position, I get behind myself, only to have no room. My legs have to be splayed. There’s also a massive plastic panel on the back of the front seats that limits legroom even more.
Cargo space is also in the 60’s, while many smaller crossovers (and even the Wrangler Unlimited) have more space. My advice? Get a Compass. Of the three crossovers, it has the best space & price for the size.

I currently own a 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8. I just passed 94,000 mi with no significant quality issues whatsoever. I’m pretty surprised by t he fact that it’s one of the most reliable vehicles I’ve ever owned. I am thinking about upgrading to a trackhawk if I can find one with a little miles and reasonable price.
![]() 08/01/2020 at 09:14 |

Yep. FCA keeps churning out special editions of the Charger/Challenger and the cars are selling so no need to invest in a new platform right now. Which, I’ve read, is going to be a modified version of the existing LX/LC platform when it does eventually show . Hopefully, this modification will include shedding 400-500lb.
![]() 08/01/2020 at 10:40 |

Idk why that surprises you. It’s a hundred thousand dollar suv... not supposed to be common. I hav e seen one around where I live though. Honestly, since I don’t need the SUV part I’d never justify spending another 3ok over a charger hellcat. Same story with the srt. I h ave a scat pack and the srt jeep or durango is 20-30 k more. That’s a big jump for someone who drives by themself 99% of the time.

Naw. Useless in bad weather. Unless you put snow tires on it, which makes pretty much any car good in bad weather.

Yea. No. You will not be finding these for 40k after 3 years.

Glaring build quality issues are a understatement. Owned a 2017 grand Cherokee that I just got rid off. Not one exterior body panel was aligned properly. A bunch of interior trim pieces also not aligned properly. Car was white and a bunch of bolts in door jambs etc that were painted white were showing rust seeping trough even when new. Soon after purchase a bolt that wasn’t even part of the door was found floating around inside the door panel. At least it was reliable.

Usually it’s just the cost more must be better syndrome but my mother even in her 70s always bought the biggest engine in whatever car she got just because she wanted to power sometimes. And she used it.

The Trackhawk is faster than the Hellcat because it has AWD, so it can actually put all that power to the wheels better despite weighing 1000 lb more
The Hellcats should’ve had AWD
![]() 08/01/2020 at 20:13 |

Let’s see how many Durango Hellcats they’ll sell in 2021
![]() 08/01/2020 at 20:16 |

The Trackhawk is the closest thing to a Magnum Hellcat they made. It’s actually faster than the Challenger and Charger despite being 1000 lb heavier and worse aerodynamics, because it has AWD, so it can actually put all that power to the wheels.
The Charger and Challenger Hellcats should’ve had AWD
They probably dropped the Trackhawk due to low sales. Sure it’s a shitty Chrysler product, but a 700-hp wagon is always a cool idea. I’d love to see a Wrangler Trackhawk :o)
How many Durango Hellcats do you think they’ll sell next year? It’s a 2021-only model
![]() 08/01/2020 at 23:38 |

Yea that’s one thing they did right was that awd system. I don’t even think the tires chirp when it launches.
As far as the Durango Hellcat, it’ll be like this. A blip on the radar. I don’t even think they’ll sell 5k. I’m all for it but at the end of the day it’s gonna be an $80k+ Durango.

T rackhawk and Jeep SRT are the most versatile vehicles out of the SRT brands. Haul family, load larger equipment in the back but if it’s too big you can have a trailer up to 7200 pounds. I’ve wanted a charger for a long time but the Jeep SRT worked out for me. The only thing I don't agree with is the price tag of the Trackhawk.
![]() 08/02/2020 at 10:17 |

Very simply: the lease programs were SHIT. Most people that are shopping for vehicles in this price bracket want to lease, not buy. I actually went to at least one myself, and even with $10,000 off, the lease was over $1,300 per month. For that kind of money, I can get myself a very nice European vehicle.

Perhaps not - have Hellcat prices (for the first ones) declined a lot ? Fiat-Chrysler seems (at least to me) to be a ship of doom ... it will not end well. But then again, I haven’t rented (the only driving I do) one of the products since ... maybe 2011? Base Charger. Not bad, not entirely good. Eh, I have no idea ...
